“A never-ending midnight sun,” a lyric that has been stuck in all our heads all week due to powerful vocals, impressive vibrato, and excitement surrounding Zara Larsson's new album, Midnight Sun: Girls Trip. Zara has also been making headlines and waves across the internet recently with her new colourful and glittery style, and trending dance sequences and spray-painting talents displayed on her tour. This project has followed a pattern of Zara’s earlier work by recreating her highly successful 2025 album, similar to her reimagining of her 2021 album Poster Girl, she launched Poster Girl (Summer Edition) four months later, but has now captivated everyone once more with the same technique and delivered a standalone hyper feminine electro pop masterpiece rather than just a deluxe edition. Over the last week Swedish princess of pop has been celebrating the release of her long-awaited new album Midnight Sun: Girls Trip, which reshapes her 2025 album Midnight Sun. The album includes 20 electro-pop remixes of her earlier tracks, 10 of which feature artists such as PinkPantheress, Shakira, Kehlani, Robyn and Tyla, who she has previously worked with on ‘SHE DID IT AGAIN’ and now ‘Hot & Sexy’ On the track ‘Hot & Sexy’ Zara also let her humorous side show by sampling the iconic Tiffany Pollard monologue aimed at Gemma Collins, the viral moment was captured during their time in the Big Brother UK house together. However, Zara has taken this speech initially used to tear someone down and, by using the positive words, “beautiful, fly, hot and sexy” has created a powerful and feminine dance track. ‘Blue Moon’ featuring Kehlani slows the album down for a moment with a new sensual first verse that adds to the vulnerability and the intimacy of the song. This track pays respect and is a homage to the pop and R&B classics that have inspired and influenced Zara and Tyla throughout their careers. Contrasting in the best way, ‘Pretty Ugly’ featuring JT is chaotic and made for the dance floor of the club. Opening verse by rapper JT reinforces the feminist and girl-power energy Zara weaves into her original songs, highlighting that it is ugly to hyper-fixate on the male gaze and to focus on our friends when partying. This makes ‘Pretty Ugly’ one of the many iconic tracks for women to listen to while getting ready and hyped for a night out with the girls. The title track and feel good summer song made with her friends, ‘Midnight Sun,’ relaunched Zara back into the spotlight, but new album Midnight Sun: Girls Trip includes the same production team to help preserve the previous albums aesthetic whilst elevating the latest creation, involving MNEK, who has worked with Zara for a decade and Margo XS, Helena Gao, and Zhone. PinkPatheress is credited as a producer on the centrepiece track ‘Midnight Sun’ and has added UK garage sounds and beats to the production that is perfect for the upcoming festival season and late-night summer drives, described by critics at Pitchfork as “hands up, windows down banger,” not only the song but also the album Midnight Sun: Girls Trip will not be forgotten anytime soon.
