Machine Head

Machine Head

Machine Head is an American heavy metal band formed in Oakland, California, in 1991 by vocalist and guitarist Robb Flynn, who had previously played in Bay Area thrash bands Vio-Lence and Forbidden. The band quickly became known for its aggressive sound, politically charged lyrics, and powerful live performances. Their debut album, *Burn My Eyes*, was released in 1994 and became Roadrunner Records’ best-selling debut at the time. It introduced the band’s signature blend of groove metal, thrash, and hardcore influences and gained them a strong following, especially in Europe. In 1997, Machine Head released *The More Things Change...*, continuing their heavy sound, but by the late 1990s and early 2000s, the band experimented with nu metal elements on albums like *The Burning Red* (1999) and *Supercharger* (2001), which divided longtime fans but expanded their audience. Machine Head returned to a heavier style with 2003’s *Through the Ashes of Empires* and achieved widespread critical acclaim with 2007’s *The Blackening*, which is often regarded as one of their best works and a modern metal classic. The album featured intricate guitar work, complex song structures, and anthemic choruses. Over the years, the band has gone through numerous lineup changes, with Robb Flynn being the only constant member. Despite internal changes and shifts in musical direction, Machine Head has maintained a consistent presence in the metal scene. Their discography includes albums such as *Unto the Locust* (2011), *Bloodstone & Diamonds* (2014), *Catharsis* (2018), and *Of Kingdom and Crown* (2022), showcasing their continued evolution and commitment to intense, emotionally driven music. Machine Head has received multiple accolades and remains one of the most respected acts in modern metal.
