SOPHIE

SOPHIE

SOPHIE was a Scottish musician, record producer, singer, and DJ known for her innovative and genre-defying work in electronic and pop music. Born Sophie Xeon on September 17, 1986, in Glasgow, Scotland, she began her music career in the early 2010s, quickly gaining recognition for her unique sound characterized by hyperkinetic beats, synthetic textures, and a bold, futuristic approach to production. SOPHIE rose to prominence with singles like "Bipp" and "Lemonade," which drew widespread acclaim for their experimental style and became influential within the emerging genre later known as hyperpop. She collaborated with a variety of artists including Charli XCX, Vince Staples, Madonna, and Kim Petras, helping to shape a new wave of avant-garde pop music. In 2018, SOPHIE released her debut album *Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides*, which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album. The record showcased her range as a producer and artist, blending aggressive sound design with emotionally resonant themes and vocal performances. The album explored identity, transformation, and gender fluidity, closely tied to SOPHIE's own experience as a transgender woman. SOPHIE was also known for challenging the norms of mainstream pop both sonically and culturally, becoming a prominent figure in LGBTQ+ communities and a trailblazer in the representation of trans artists in music. Tragically, SOPHIE died on January 30, 2021, in Athens, Greece, following an accidental fall. She was 34 years old. Her legacy continues to influence contemporary music, and she is remembered as a visionary who expanded the possibilities of sound, identity, and artistry in the digital age.
