Content - Liverpool 5th May 2026

Story by Ben Avery

There was a massive buzz about the place as a really excited crowd full of the tricolour balaclavas, Ireland sports shirts of all sorts and other Kneecap and Fontaines DC merch, filled into the 1500 or so capacity ‘Content’ venue in the former Cains Brewery in Liverpool's Baltic triangle.

A lot of Irish and obviously a lot of scousers, all mostly early 20’s in the crowd. Fontaines DC’s Favorite played by the DJ immediately prior to the show raised the electricity in the air to euphoric levels. The show was part of a run of album promo shows running in various places up and down the UK over the last couple of weeks. Most of the gigs have either been in record shops or venues associated with them. This one in Content was presented by The Jacaranda. “Don’t throw any flags on stage else, it’s his turn to pick it up” - Mo Chara referring to co-frontman Móglaí Bap. It was the association with support for Gazaians at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, London in late 2024 that led to Mo Chara’s arrest on terrorism charges. Sparked by somebody throwing a Hezbollah flag onstage and Mo picking it up and waving it. The case was eventually thrown out by the judge on a technicality. The song ‘Carnival’ from the new album, talks us through the whole affair and led to crowd participation in singing the chorus - ‘Free Mo Chara Free free Mo Chara’. The title track of the album Fenian hit hard, the atmosphere was electric, everyone chanting along with the “FE FE FEN FENIAN” of the chorus. Prior to dropping into the massive favourite H.O.O.D, one of only two songs they played that're not on this new album the crowd parted the waves and created a ‘provo pit’ where all the tricolour balaclava wearers were invited in. Which must have looked somewhat reminiscent of the FENIAN video. DJ Próvaí was popular throughout the show receiving cheers each time he came forward from behind his decks to join the rapping. The end of the set had us being asked if we want another song or nipples - nipples seemed to be the answer and DJ Próvaí pulled his boiler suite open to his navel to reveal his, to rapturous applause. Kneecap never take themselves too seriously; they like to have fun. The Recap (not from the new album) really lifted the roof with an assault on all senses, pulsing hyper backing track, smoke and lasers tracing across the whole auditorium, and the crowd bouncing as one. Kneecap has been talking about the suffering of the Palestinians since at least the start of the Israeli incursions into Gaza. About the ordinary people of Gaza who are just trying to live their lives and have no involvement with Hamas or real fight with Israel. He gave an impassioned speech about their plight and not to forget them and to try to put pressure on the government to try to help the situation.

The UK Government and specifically Kier Starmer who came in for a lot of flack as the crowd were led in a rousing rendition of ‘F**k Kier Starmer’ before they launched in to the closing number Liars Tale Limited to a 45 mins set, as this had a late start due to it being the second show of the evening, but they managed to pack a lot in.
