27 minutes of doom. The album opens with Grace Wilsons dream like monologue with a controlling demonic voice behind echoing her speech, or perhaps its the other way around. It sets a gothic, haunting, doom laden tone for the rest of the album. Moving into the title track of the album, Arkfiend, this is where we hear Grace's soaring powerful voice in full, "I was born with the devil in me" she sings. Francesco Fonte's production on this is brilliant. Pillory of Victory- Francesco brings in the heavy guns, the guitars are much more prevalent and add real depth and showcase his obvious talent. Bootlicker - For me this is the standout track of the album. I can see why it was chosen as a single. The video really helps too, its really well atmospheric, dark and creepy. The lurking evil character reminded my strongly of the Babadook. Overall its a really strong package, lyrically its really interesting, the vocals are something special, guitars, drums and the atmospheric background dirge. Its well worth a listen.
