Open Wide

Inhaler

Review

Inhaler’s new album, Open Wide, is a rousing declaration that the band isn’t content to simply rest on its laurels. From the get-go, the record thrusts you into a whirlwind of urgent guitar riffs, propulsive rhythms, and a vocal delivery that oscillates effortlessly between introspection and defiant swagger. Right from the opening track, Inhaler make it clear they’re here to shake things up. Frontman Elijah Hewson’s performance is both raw and refined, capturing a distinctly modern angst while tipping a hat to the anthemic rock of yesteryear. There’s a palpable sense of tension throughout the album – as if each song is daring you to lean in closer and confront the beautifully chaotic blend of melody and mayhem. Production-wise, Open Wide is as crisp as it is evocative. The band manages to balance the weight of their retro influences with a contemporary edge, delivering tracks that are at once nostalgic and utterly current. Whether it’s the explosive urgency of a standout opener or the more measured, reflective passages that punctuate the record, each moment is meticulously crafted, ensuring that every riff and lyric lands with impact. Lyrically, the album is a thoughtful exploration of freedom, identity, and the delicate dance between vulnerability and resilience. There are plenty of moments where the words cut deep, resonating with anyone who’s ever felt the thrill—and the burden—of breaking free from convention. Sure, there might be a few instances where the echoes of classic rock feel a tad familiar, yet it’s this very blend of homage and innovation that gives *Open Wide* its distinctive charm. In a musical landscape that often shies away from risk, Inhaler’s fearless approach is both refreshing and invigorating. All in all, Open Wide is a compelling, no-holds-barred offering that cements Inhaler’s place in the modern rock pantheon. It’s an album that invites you to listen loud, think deeply, and, quite literally, open wide to the possibilities of what rock music can be.
