The Twilight Sad

The Twilight Sad

The Twilight Sad is a Scottish indie rock band formed in Glasgow in 2003 by James Graham (vocals) and Andy MacFarlane (guitar). Known for their emotionally intense songs, the group blends post-punk, shoegaze, and wide-angled guitar textures with Graham’s deep, expressive voice. They released their acclaimed debut, Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters, in 2007 on Fat Cat Records, which helped establish their dark, melodic sound. Their follow-up, Forget the Night Ahead, arrived in 2009 and further solidified their reputation for stark beauty and cathartic intensity. Over the years the lineup has evolved, but Graham and MacFarlane have remained the core, guiding the band’s direction through albums like Nobody Wants to Be Here and Nobody Wants to Leave and later works. In 2020 they released It Won’t Always Be Like This, which brought broader attention and new audiences to their earnest, anthemic style. The Twilight Sad are celebrated for their powerful live performances and their contribution to the Scottish indie scene, delivering songs that explore memory, adolescence, loneliness, and resilience with a uniquely resonant sound.
