George Michael
George Michael (born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, June 25, 1963 – December 25, 2016) was a British singer, songwriter, and record producer, widely regarded as one of the most influential and successful artists in pop music history. Known for his soulful voice, charismatic stage presence, and ability to craft timeless pop songs, Michael sold more than 120 million records worldwide during his career. Born in East Finchley, London, to a Greek Cypriot father and an English mother, Michael developed a passion for music at a young age. In 1981, he rose to fame as one-half of the pop duo **Wham!**, alongside his school friend Andrew Ridgeley. The duo achieved global success with hits like *"Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go,"* *"Last Christmas,"* and *"Careless Whisper"*—the latter co-written by Michael and considered one of his signature songs. In 1986, Michael embarked on a highly successful solo career with the release of his debut album, *Faith* (1987). The album, featuring chart-topping hits like *"Faith,"* *"Father Figure,"* and *"One More Try,"* earned him a Grammy Award for Album of the Year and solidified his status as a global superstar. Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, he continued to release critically acclaimed records, including *Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1* (1990) and *Older* (1996), which explored more mature and introspective themes. Beyond his music, George Michael was a philanthropist and LGBTQ+ icon. He came out as gay in 1998 and used his platform to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ rights and HIV/AIDS. Privately, he donated millions to charitable causes, including children's organizations, healthcare initiatives, and AIDS research. Michael faced personal struggles, including battles with addiction and highly publicized legal and health challenges. Despite these difficulties, his music and artistry remained revered.
