Sia
Sia Kate Isobelle Furler, known mononymously as Sia, is an Australian singer, songwriter, and producer, celebrated for her distinctive voice, inventive artistry, and powerful songwriting. She was born on December 18, 1975, in Adelaide, South Australia. Growing up in a creative household—her father was a musician and her mother a visual artist—Sia was exposed to the arts from an early age. In the late 1990s, Sia began her music career as a vocalist for the acid jazz band Crisp. After the group disbanded, she moved to the UK, where she released her debut solo album, "OnlySee," in 1997. Over the next decade, she gained recognition in Europe for her soulful releases, including songs like "Breathe Me," which garnered global attention after being featured in the finale of the TV series "Six Feet Under." Sia's career took a dramatic turn in the 2010s when she transitioned into being a pop songwriter for world-renowned artists like Beyoncé, Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Adele. Many of her songs, such as Rihanna's "Diamonds," became massive hits. However, it was her own comeback as a solo artist—marked by the release of "Chandelier" in 2014—that catapulted her to superstardom. The song, featured on her album "1000 Forms of Fear," became a global sensation and showcased her extraordinary vocal abilities. Sia is also known for her signature style of concealing her face with oversized wigs and headpieces, a creative choice she made to maintain privacy and shift focus toward her art rather than her appearance. Her collaborations with dancer Maddie Ziegler, who has appeared in many of her music videos, have become iconic elements of her work. In addition to music, Sia has ventured into directing and writing, most notably with her 2021 film "Music." Throughout her career, she has openly discussed her battles with addiction, mental health challenges, and her journey toward self-healing, becoming an advocate for mental health awareness. With numerous accolades, including Grammy nominations, ARIA Awards, and global chart-topping records, Sia remains one of the most respected and innovative figures in contemporary music.
