Spiritbox is a Canadian metal band formed in 2016 in Victoria, British Columbia, by vocalist Courtney LaPlante and guitarist Mike Stringer. Blending elements of metalcore, progressive metal, and djent, the band quickly gained recognition for their dynamic sound, emotionally charged lyrics, and LaPlante’s versatile vocal abilities. After independently releasing their debut self-titled EP in 2017 and a follow-up EP *Singles Collection* in 2019, Spiritbox gained widespread attention with their 2020 single *Holy Roller*, which became a breakout hit in the modern metal scene. The success of the track, along with other singles like *Constance* and *Circle With Me*, helped build anticipation for their debut studio album, *Eternal Blue*, released in September 2021. The album debuted at number 13 on the Billboard 200 and received critical acclaim for its blend of aggression, melody, and technical musicianship. Following the success of *Eternal Blue*, Spiritbox continued to tour extensively and released the *Rotoscope* EP in 2022, showcasing a more experimental direction. In 2023, they followed up with *The Fear of Fear* EP, further solidifying their reputation as one of the most innovative and exciting modern metal bands. Spiritbox’s music is characterized by haunting atmospheres, intricate guitar work, and LaPlante’s seamless transitions between harsh screams and ethereal clean vocals. Their growing influence in the metal community has made them a defining act of the genre’s new generation.
