Mumford & Sons is a British folk rock band formed in London in 2007. The original lineup consisted of Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall, and Ted Dwane. Known for their energetic live performances and use of traditional folk instruments like the banjo, acoustic guitar, and upright bass, the band quickly gained popularity for their heartfelt lyrics and rich harmonies. The group rose to prominence with their debut album, Sigh No More, released in 2009. The album featured hit songs such as Little Lion Man and The Cave and earned the band several Grammy nominations. Their follow-up album, Babel, released in 2012, debuted at number one on both the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200. Babel won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2013 and solidified the band's international success. In 2015, Mumford & Sons took a stylistic turn with their third album, Wilder Mind, which featured a more electric, rock-oriented sound and moved away from the banjo-led folk style. They continued to evolve musically with their 2018 album, Delta, which blended indie rock, electronic, and folk influences. Throughout their career, the band has been known for their lyrical introspection, musical versatility, and commitment to live performance. In 2021, Winston Marshall announced his departure from the band, marking a new chapter in the group's history. Despite the lineup change, Mumford & Sons remains a prominent figure in the modern folk and alternative rock scenes, known for pushing the boundaries of their genre while maintaining a deep emotional connection in their music.
