The Chainsmokers are an American electronic music duo consisting of Alexander "Alex" Pall and Andrew "Drew" Taggart. Formed in 2012 in New York City, the group rose to prominence with their breakthrough single "Selfie" in 2014, which became a viral hit and introduced their blend of EDM and pop to a global audience. Originally started by Pall and DJ Rhett Bixler, the project took its final shape when Taggart joined in place of Bixler. The duo quickly gained attention for their catchy melodies, chart-topping singles, and ability to blend genres. They released their debut EP "Bouquet" in 2015, featuring the hit song "Roses," which marked a shift toward a more radio-friendly sound. The Chainsmokers achieved massive success with their 2016 single "Closer," featuring Halsey, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 consecutive weeks. They followed this with a string of successful tracks, including "Paris," "Something Just Like This" with Coldplay, and "Don't Let Me Down" featuring Daya. Their debut studio album "Memories...Do Not Open" was released in 2017, debuting at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart. Known for their energetic live performances and widespread appeal, the duo has earned numerous awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording in 2017. They continued to release albums such as "Sick Boy" in 2018 and "World War Joy" in 2019, showcasing a maturation in their sound and themes. The Chainsmokers have become one of the most prominent acts in modern electronic and pop music, blending influences from indie, pop, hip-hop, and EDM to create a distinctive style that resonates with a broad audience.
