Counting Crows

Counting Crows is an American rock band formed in 1991 in Berkeley, California. The group is known for its introspective lyrics and a blend of folk, alternative rock, and pop influences. The band was founded by vocalist Adam Duritz and guitarist David Bryson and later expanded to include members Charlie Gillingham, Dan Vickrey, David Immerglück, Jim Bogios, and Millard Powers. Counting Crows rose to fame with their 1993 debut album, *August and Everything After*, which featured the hit single "Mr. Jones." The album was both a critical and commercial success, establishing the band’s reputation for emotionally direct songwriting and Duritz’s expressive vocals. Their follow-up album, *Recovering the Satellites* (1996), debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and included songs like "A Long December." Over the years, Counting Crows released several more albums, including *This Desert Life* (1999), *Hard Candy* (2002), and *Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings* (2008). One of their most commercially successful singles, a cover of Joni Mitchell’s "Big Yellow Taxi," brought them broader mainstream recognition. Their song "Accidentally in Love," featured in the 2004 film *Shrek 2*, earned nominations for several major awards. Known for their dynamic live performances and evolving setlists, Counting Crows have maintained a dedicated fan base. Their music, characterized by narrative-driven lyrics and emotional depth, continues to resonate with audiences. In subsequent years, they have released additional records and toured extensively, solidifying their place in modern American rock history.
