The Hives

The Hives

The Hives are a Swedish rock band formed in Fagersta, Sweden, in 1993. The band gained international recognition in the early 2000s during the garage rock revival movement. Known for their high-energy performances and sharp, matching black-and-white outfits, The Hives are celebrated for their raw sound, catchy riffs, and charismatic stage presence. The group consists of Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist (vocals), Nicholaus Arson (guitar), Vigilante Carlstroem (guitar), Dr. Matt Destruction (bass, until 2013), and Chris Dangerous (drums). After Dr. Matt Destruction's departure, The Hives welcomed The Johan and Only as their live bassist. The Hives broke through globally with their 2000 album "Veni Vidi Vicious," which featured the hit single "Hate to Say I Told You So." The album drew critical and commercial acclaim and helped establish their status as leaders of the garage rock revival alongside bands like The Strokes and The White Stripes. Subsequent releases such as "Tyrannosaurus Hives" (2004), "The Black and White Album" (2007), and "Lex Hives" (2012) further showcased their punchy, frenetic sound and witty lyrics. After a hiatus from studio albums, they returned in 2023 with "The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons," reaffirming their signature style and energetic delivery. The Hives are widely considered one of the most dynamic and exciting live rock acts, maintaining a loyal fan base and critical respect for their uncompromising commitment to rock and roll showmanship.
