Big Thief
Big Thief is an American indie rock band that formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 2015. The group consists of Adrianne Lenker on vocals and guitar, Buck Meek on guitar, Max Oleartchik on bass, and James Krivchenia on drums. Known for their raw, emotionally resonant sound, the band blends elements of folk, rock, and experimental music, earning critical acclaim for their deeply personal songwriting and dynamic live performances. Big Thief released their debut album *Masterpiece* in 2016, quickly establishing themselves as a distinctive voice in indie music. Their follow-up record, *Capacity* (2017), further showcased Lenker's poetic lyricism and the band's evolving musical complexity. In 2019, Big Thief released two albums, *U.F.O.F.* and *Two Hands*, within months of each other. *U.F.O.F.*, recorded in a cabin in Washington state, took a more atmospheric and mystical tone, while *Two Hands*, recorded in the New Mexico desert, was marked by a rawer, earthier energy. Both albums received widespread acclaim, with *U.F.O.F.* earning a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. In 2022, Big Thief released the ambitious double album *Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You*, which highlighted their genre-bending approach and collaborative spirit. The album was recorded in various locations across the U.S., capturing the band's spirit of exploration and musical curiosity. Big Thief is celebrated for their intimate sound, philosophical lyrics, and a constant drive to push creative boundaries.
