Biffy Clyro is a Scottish rock band formed in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, in 1995. The group consists of Simon Neil on lead vocals and guitar, and twin brothers James Johnston on bass and backing vocals, and Ben Johnston on drums and backing vocals. Known for their energetic live performances and complex, dynamic musical style, Biffy Clyro has become one of the most successful rock acts in the United Kingdom. The band released their debut album, Blackened Sky, in 2002, which was followed by The Vertigo of Bliss in 2003 and Infinity Land in 2004. These early albums gained them a cult following and critical acclaim for their blend of alternative rock, heavy riffs, and emotional lyrics. Biffy Clyro achieved mainstream success with their fourth album, Puzzle, in 2007, which peaked at number two on the UK Albums Chart. Their commercial breakthrough continued with the release of Only Revolutions in 2009, featuring hit singles such as Mountains and Many of Horror. The latter was notably covered by X Factor winner Matt Cardle, bringing further attention to the band. Their sixth studio album, Opposites, released in 2013, debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and marked a peak in their popularity. They have since released several more albums, including Ellipsis in 2016 and A Celebration of Endings in 2020, both of which also topped the UK charts. Throughout their career, Biffy Clyro has garnered numerous awards and nominations and built a reputation as one of the most innovative and enduring bands in modern British rock. Their music is characterized by a mix of melodic hooks, progressive structures, and emotionally charged lyrics, making them a standout presence in the global rock scene.
