Idlewild
Idlewild is a Scottish rock band formed in Edinburgh in 1995. The original lineup consisted of Roddy Woomble on vocals, Rod Jones on guitar, Phil Scanlon on bass, and Colin Newton on drums. Known for blending punk energy with melodic elements, Idlewild quickly gained a loyal following in the UK music scene. The band released their debut mini-album, *Captain*, in 1998, followed by their first full-length album, *Hope Is Important*. Their early sound was characterized by raw, aggressive rock, which gradually evolved into a more refined and melody-driven style, particularly evident in albums like *100 Broken Windows* and *The Remote Part*. These records received critical acclaim and helped cement Idlewild's reputation as one of the foremost alternative rock bands of the early 2000s. Throughout their career, Idlewild experienced several lineup changes but maintained a consistent output of music. Their lyrical themes often revolve around introspection, literature, and the Scottish landscape, aspects largely influenced by frontman Roddy Woomble's songwriting. After a hiatus beginning in 2010, Idlewild reformed in 2013 and returned with new material including the album *Everything Ever Written* in 2015, showcasing a matured and more expansive sound. The band continues to record and perform, maintaining a devoted fan base and a significant legacy in the British indie rock scene.
