Deaf Havana
Deaf Havana is an English alternative rock band formed in 2005 in King's Lynn, Norfolk. The original lineup consisted of James Veck-Gilodi (vocals, guitar), Ryan Mellor (screamed vocals), Lee Wilson (bass), Tom Ogden (drums), and Chris Pennells (guitar). The band first gained prominence with their blend of post-hardcore and melodic rock, releasing early material that included their debut EP *It’s Called the Easy Life* in 2008. Their first full-length album, *Meet Me Halfway, at Least*, was released in 2009 and showcased a heavier sound with both clean and screamed vocals. Shortly after its release, Mellor left the band, prompting a shift in musical direction. James Veck-Gilodi took over as lead vocalist, and the band embraced a more melodic, alternative rock style. In 2011, Deaf Havana released *Fools and Worthless Liars*, marking a transition to a more accessible and mainstream rock sound. The album was well received and expanded their fanbase throughout the UK and beyond. They continued to evolve with albums such as *Old Souls* (2013), which featured soulful rock influences and included the popular single “Boston Square.” Their 2017 release *All These Countless Nights* solidified their place in the UK rock scene with polished production and introspective songwriting. Following some lineup changes, including the departure of long-time drummer Tom Ogden, Deaf Havana continued as a duo of James and his brother Matthew Veck-Gilodi. In 2022, they released *The Present Is a Foreign Land*, an album that explored a more electronic and experimental sound. Known for their heartfelt lyrics and dynamic musical progression, Deaf Havana has toured extensively and performed at major festivals, earning a reputation as one of the UK’s most enduring and adaptable rock acts.
