He was born in London, England, and moved to Atlanta, Georgia, with his mother at a young age. Raised in the tough streets of East Atlanta, 21 Savage developed a reputation for resilience and authenticity that would later inform his music. He began gaining attention in the Atlanta rap scene with the release of his 2015 mixtape *The Slaughter Tape*, followed by a collaborative EP *Savage Mode* with producer Metro Boomin in 2016. The project featured hits like "No Heart" and "X," which helped catapult him into the national spotlight. In 2018, 21 Savage released his acclaimed album *I Am > I Was*, which showcased his growth as an artist with deeper lyrical content and sonic maturity. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and eventually earned him a Grammy Award for Best Rap Song in 2020 for his collaboration with J Cole on the song "A Lot." 21 Savage’s career has also been marked by personal challenges, including a high-profile immigration case in 2019 that revealed his UK citizenship.
