Dry Cleaning is a British post-punk band formed in South London in 2018. The group consists of vocalist Florence Shaw, guitarist Tom Dowse, bassist Lewis Maynard, and drummer Nick Buxton. Known for their distinctive sound that blends angular guitar-driven post-punk music with spoken-word vocals, Dry Cleaning quickly garnered attention for their cerebral and often surreal lyricism. Before forming the band, the members had been involved in other musical projects, and Florence Shaw, a visual artist and university lecturer, had no prior experience as a frontwoman. Her deadpan delivery and poetic narratives became the defining feature of the band's style, drawing comparisons to spoken-word pioneers and literary figures. Dry Cleaning released their debut EP, "Sweet Princess," in 2019, followed by "Boundary Road Snacks and Drinks" later the same year. The EPs built a strong underground following and led to critical acclaim. Their debut album, *New Long Leg*, was released in 2021 on the iconic record label 4AD. Produced by John Parish, the album received widespread praise for its sharp wit, inventive arrangements, and the band's tight musicianship. It reached the Top 10 of the UK Albums Chart and established them as one of the most exciting new acts in the post-punk resurgence. In 2022, Dry Cleaning released their follow-up album, *Stumpwork*, which continued to expand their sonic palette with richer textures and more introspective themes. Dry Cleaning's music often explores modern life, absurdities, and the mundanity of everyday experiences, delivered through Shaw's unique narrative lens. Their rise has marked them as key figures in contemporary British rock, offering a fresh and innovative take on the post-punk tradition.
