After years of anticipation, Spotify has officially launched Lossless Audio streaming, offering Premium subscribers high-fidelity sound quality up to 24-bit - at no extra cost.

Spotify has officially launched Lossless Audio, a long-awaited upgrade that allows Premium users to stream music in FLAC format at up to 24-bit/44.1kHz quality. The rollout has begun across more than 50 markets, including the UK, US and Europe, marking a major leap in the platforms sound standards. The new feature can be activated in the Spotify app by heading to Settings, Media Quality and Lossless - with compatible tracks displaying a small “Lossless” badge during playback. Listeners are advised to use wired headphones or Wi-Fi connected speakers for the best experience, as standard Bluetooth can’t fully transmit lossless audio data. Unlike earlier rumours, the upgrade comes at no additional cost for current Premium subscribers, though Spotify is expected to explore a higher-tier “Music Pro” plan in the future. The launch finally puts spotify on par with rivals such as Apple Music, Tidal and Amazon Music, all of which already offer high-resolution streaming. Early users report noticeably richer, more detailed sound - a welcome move for music fans and creators who value studio-level clarity in their listening experience.
