Shadow on the Hill is the new solo album from Adam Norsworthy, one of the most respected and critically acclaimed singer-songwriters on the UK’s live music scene

Shadow on the Hill

Adam Norsworthy has long been one of the UK’s most quietly revered figures on the live circuit, a songwriter whose reputation has been built not on hype, but on graft, melody and the occasional moment of lyrical brilliance. As a founding member of both The Mustangs and The Milk Men, he’s already carved out a solid legacy, but it’s his solo work that has allowed him to fully stretch his emotional and musical range. Shadow on the Hill is his sixth solo outing, and arguably his most intimate to date. Across ten brand-new self-penned tracks, Norsworthy leans into a softer, more contemplative side of his songwriting without sacrificing his knack for memorable hooks. The melodies still linger, but it’s the lyrics that get you, sometimes stark and unflinching, sometimes vividly cinematic, always rooted in emotional honesty. Released on his own Park Hall label, Shadow on the Hill is available on CD via adamnorsworthy.co.uk, as well as digitally through Amazon, iTunes and the usual online outlets. Musically, the album drifts between pop, rock, folk, country and blues, weaving them into what is easily Norsworthy’s most beautiful and emotionally cohesive record so far. At its core, the album charts the collapse of an intense relationship, a personal story that doubles as a wider metaphor for a fractured world. “Relationships are breaking down everywhere,” Norsworthy reflects. “The polarisation of opinions is tearing people apart and driving a wedge between us all. Long-held, cherished relationships have been destroyed by events happening all over the world from Brexit to the current administration on Capitol Hill.” A one-man band in the studio, Norsworthy plays every instrument himself, bar the drums. Those are handled by Tim Weller (The Divine Comedy), a seasoned sticksman whose CV runs from David Bowie to Eric Clapton, and who currently holds down the rhythm for Dexy’s Midnight Runners and Marc Almond. The album is self-produced and mixed and mastered by Wayne Proctor of House Of Tone, marking their eleventh collaboration. “Wayne and I have a great working relationship,” says Norsworthy. “With my solo albums especially, we like to find a new angle. This time we’ve created an atmosphere that draws you in and keeps you there as the story unfolds.” Beyond the studio, Norsworthy remains a tireless champion of British blues. He is the founder and organiser of Milkfest, the annual one-day charity celebration held at London’s O2, which has welcomed the likes of Dr Feelgood, Paul Jones, Chris Difford, Elles Bailey and The Climax Blues Band. And if the music wasn’t enough, November 2025 saw the release of his warmly received memoir, Stage by Stage: A Life in Twelve Gigs a fittingly personal account from an artist who has always let the songs do the talking.
