Fans were queuing all the way up Apsley Grove and Marshall Street, waiting to fill the maroon theatre with a spectacular balcony and the raised floor for an incredible view for every fan. A sea of Lola Young t-shirts quickly formed a crowd from the barricade to the exit, patiently waiting

Beginning at 8pm, Annabelle Dinda and her band came on stage as the crowd cheered excitedly, trying not to spill their drinks in the intimate venue. Twirling and dancing while singing ‘Blunt Force and Bomb Dog’, ‘Cosmic Microwave Background’, ‘Whatever You Want’, and ‘Forget I’m Here’. But fans really connected with Annabelle, screaming the lyrics back at her, when she began her popular tune ‘The Hand’ and ending on ‘Gunpoint, Headlock.’ Friends ran to the bar or the bathroom while other friends stood firm in the spot they had waited all night for, stage production crew began moving everything around as people whispered in anticipation waiting for Lola. Suddenly fog fills the room, blue lights glow from behind the band as they play the introduction to ‘SAD SOB STORY! :)’as fans scream and chant. In dark blue parachute pants and matching bomber jacket, a black t-shirt and her signature makeup, Lola appears and the crowd cheers, screams and sings along with the opening track, extremely excited for her return to stage. Following straight into ‘d£aler’, her 5th most streamed song on Spotify, the crowd brought the energy for the opening night and tracks of the tour making Lola laugh along with fans screaming the lyrics at her. After these tracks Lola moved her fans in the crowd by explaining she’s writing a little speech for each individual tour, titled ‘The Manchester Mantra’, Lola shared some inspirational words of motivation that remind herself of who she is, reading from her phone some of the words she shared with her fans written especially for tonight:
“When you are connected, when you express what you feel is true to you, when you open yourself up, and share your very unique experience. Remember, that you are electric, that there is a life force, a current, running through you, and like water it flows, so, you must let it, and watch how it carries you, guides you, and it can take over. Sometimes you forget your own power, it is easy to do, when the noise around you becomes too loud, your instinct is to shout above it, so, you still feel heard, But don't, stay quiet. Those who want to listen will lean in no matter your volume. There is not a single person with your same spirit, and that is not a compliment, that is a fact. Yes, they may be made up of the same kind of chemicals, and tissues and skin and bone, but they will never make the same choices you did, the ones that got you here, to this very moment, so, make sure you choose everyone with intent. You are the only person in this world who can keep your purpose alive. So, cherish it, share it if you can, and feed it so it can continue to grow.”

The crowd cheered and clapped, inspired by the words, and filled with pride seeing Lola embracing her impact as a person and musician. As Lola thanked her fans for listening to the first speech of the tour the band began to play ‘One Thing’ as fans on the floor and the balcony above danced along. Fans sang each and every lyric back at Lola as she danced from either side of the stage interacting with the crowd. Followed by ‘Conceited’ as the band blasted through the speakers and the crowd maintained the enthusiastic energy they started with for this popular viral tune. Lola’s set list switched to a more relaxed pace as she played her emotional tracks, ‘Walk On By,’ ‘Penny Out of Nothing,’ and ‘why do i feel better when i hurt you?’ Friends huddled together and mothers held their daughters while tapping swaying and tapping their feet as her impressive vocals echoed throughout the theatre. Leading onto ‘Walk All Over You’ and ‘Post Sex Clarity’ that had the crowd and Lola back dancing, but quickly switched back to her more heartfelt tracks, and moved the crowd as she sang a raw acoustic rendition of her popular track ‘SPIDERS’ as the crowd with tear filled eyes sang along with her. Lola kept the crowd guessing with her final tracks and ended the show with ‘Big Brown Eyes’, ‘You Noticed’ and ‘Not Like That Anymore’ before thanking her fans and abruptly leaving the stage. Whispers amongst fans trying to work out what songs have not been played murmured as quickly as the chanting for her return. “LOLA! LOLA! LOLA!” screamed fans as she ran back on stage for an encore, ending a wonderful opening night with the track that the tour is named after, ‘From Down Here’ and her breakout track ‘Messy’ left the crowd with memories to last a lifetime.
