MGMT is an American rock band formed in 2002 by Benjamin Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden while they were students at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. The band initially began as a collaborative project that explored experimental and electronic music, but they soon developed a distinctive sound that blends elements of psychedelic rock, synthpop, and indie rock. MGMT rose to fame with their debut album *Oracular Spectacular*, released in 2007. The album received widespread critical acclaim and featured hit singles like “Time to Pretend,” “Electric Feel,” and “Kids,” all of which became defining tracks of the late 2000s indie music scene. The band’s eclectic style and retro-inspired sound gained them a strong following and established them as prominent figures in alternative music. Following the success of their debut, MGMT released *Congratulations* in 2010, which marked a shift toward a more experimental and less commercially driven approach. Though polarizing among fans, the album was praised for its ambition and complex arrangements. In 2013, they released their self-titled third album *MGMT*, which continued their exploration of psychedelic and avant-garde sounds. In 2018, the band released *Little Dark Age*, a critically acclaimed album that saw a return to more accessible melodies while maintaining their signature surreal and whimsical tone. The title track and other singles like “Me and Michael” and “When You Die” found renewed interest and introduced MGMT to a new generation of listeners. Known for their genre-defying style and visual artistry, MGMT remains a dynamic presence in modern music. Their work continues to influence a wide range of artists and captivate fans with a blend of nostalgia, innovation, and a flair for the unconventional.
